Skipwith Academy at Forest Avenue is located in the historic home of Admiral Grey, Jr. and Kate Skipwith. Located in the West End of Richmond, the brick English Tudor style house was built in 1927 on a civil war camp site. Families enter from the slate patio, through a main door flanked by French doors, into an enormous parlor with oak floors that continue to run throughout the home. Off of the parlor, on the main floor, are classrooms located in what originally were the formal dining and family rooms. We are proud to have been part of the rich Richmond history for more than 20 years. Skipwith Academy has emphasized a quality child care program in a safe, clean friendly atmosphere in which to learn and grow. We are proud to be Cognia accredited! More than just a day care, Skipwith Academy provides early childhood education for children ages infants through school age in a nurturing and loving atmosphere designed to meet each child’s individual needs. I have worked for Minnieland for over 30 years. I love the people I work with, the children and families. I have always felt honored to have been given the opportunity to teach, inspire, and love all of these beautiful children and families. The reason I chose Minnieland out of the many daycares out there was because of the core value this family based childcare center was centered around. I cannot recommend this center enough. I am currently the Program Manager here. I have been employed here as of writing, 7 months. In this time I have learned way more than I have learned in my 15+ years in early childhood education. My administration team is very supportive and provides me with the creative freedom to add my own authentic flair to the program. The executive director Mrs. Nikia has helped guide me through learning the ropes here with the company and provided me with countless training opportunities to continue to grow. The assistant director Mrs. Dhammika provides love and comfort to all of the children she sees and she is a very hard worker.
